The Stamps School’s annual Undergraduate Juried Exhibition, a showcase of the best work produced by Stamps undergraduate students, is on view from November 22 — December 15, 2019 at Stamps Gallery.
A highly anticipated Stamps School tradition, the Undergraduate Juried Exhibition provides an opportunity for the school to support students whose creative work is recognized as exceptional by invited jurors, with awards announced at the exhibition reception: Friday, November 22, from 6 – 8 pm.
On November 23 from 2 – 4 pm, join award-winning students from the Undergraduate Juried Exhibition as they discuss their work.
Jurors
Parisa Ghaderi is a visual artist, curator, and filmmaker with BA in Visual Communications from Art & Architecture University (Iran), and an MFA from the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and featured in The Huffington Post, The Brooklyn Rail, the Michigan Daily, the Visual ARTBEAT Magazine and more. She is currently an assistant professor of Graphic Design at MSU Department of Art, Art History, & Design.
Cynthia Greig’s photographs, videos and installations examine the concept of photographic truth and its correspondence to perceived reality. Her work has been exhibited throughout the US and abroad, and is held in public collections including the Museum of Fine Arts Boston, George Eastman Museum, MFA Houston, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Smith College Museum of Art as well as private and corporate collections. Awards and honors include the Kresge Foundation’s Visual Artist Fellowship, Houston Center for Photography Fellowship, Light Work Artist Residency, Michigan Council for the Arts Creative Artist Award, and Great Lakes Regional Fellowships. Cynthia writes and curates on an independent basis, and is co-author of the book, Women in Pants (Harry Abrams, 2003). She earned an MFA from the University of Michigan in 1995 after receiving her MA in art history from the University of Iowa, Iowa City, and BFA in printmaking at Washington University, St. Louis, MO.
Cosmo Whyte (b.) 1982, Jamaica, attended Bennington College in Vermont for his BFA, Maryland Institute College of Art for his Post-Baccalaureate Certificate and the University of Michigan for his MFA.
Exhibitions of note include “Of Drawings and Belonging” at The High Museum, Atlanta, “Relational Undercurrents” at the Museum of Latin American Art, Los Angeles, the “13th Havana Biennial”, “Get Up Stand Up” at The Somerset House, England and “The Sea is History” at the Museum of Cultural History, Norway.
In 2010 he was the winner of the Forward Arts emerging artist of the year award, the 2015 recipient of the International Sculpture Center’s “Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award” and the 2016 Atlanta Artadia Award. Whyte is currently a 2018 – 2020 Open Sessions fellow at the Drawing Center NY and a Working Artist Program awardee at the Museum of Contemporary Art Georgia.
Cosmo Whyte is based in Montego Bay Jamaica and Atlanta, Georgia. He is an Avalon Humanities Endowed Professor at Morehouse College.
