  • BFA/BA in Art & Design

    Early Action deadline : November 1
    Regular Decision deadline : February 1

    1. Submit a completed Common Application.

      Keep in mind:
      • College Search: University of Michigan
      • U-M College or School to which you are applying: Stamps School of Art & Design OR Stamps School of Art & Design Dual Applicant
      • Program of Study: Art and Design BFA
      • Recommenders: 1 School Report and 1 Academic Teacher. Optionally, you can also submit 1 Art/Design Teacher.
    2. Follow the portfolio instructions provided in your application to be redirected to SlideRoom, our portfolio submission portal.
      • Submit 12-15 pieces, including descriptions that answer the question "Why did I create this?"
    3. Request an official copy of your transcript from your high school or GED exam results.

    4. Test scores can be sent directly to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor:
      • Please note: the Stamps School does not use SAT or ACT scores in our evaluation process. In addition, this year the University of Michigan is test-flexible, which means you can indicate if you want your application to be reviewed without submitting test scores. If you are applying as a dual degree student, you may want to consider submitting your test scores for the other program’s evaluation.
      • ACT (U-M code: 2062) and/or SAT (U-M code: 1839)
      • English language proficiency scores are required of all speakers of English as a second language
  • BFA in Interarts Performance

    Early Action deadline : November 1

  • Transfer Students

    Deadline for Winter 2024 Admission: October 1, 2023
    Deadline for Fall 2024 Admission: February 1, 2024

      • Program of Study: Art and Design BFA
      • Recommenders: OPTIONAL - 1 Art/Design Teacher
    2. Follow the portfolio instructions provided in your application to be redirected to SlideRoom, our portfolio submission portal.
      • Submit 12-15 pieces, including descriptions that answer the question "Why did I create this?"
    3. Provide proof of high school completion: Request an official copy of your transcript from your high school (including 9th-12th grades and graduation date) or GED exam results.

    4. Official transcripts from all post-secondary institutions.

    5. Test scores can be sent directly to the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor:
      • Please note: the Stamps School does not use SAT or ACT scores in our evaluation process. In addition, this year the University of Michigan is test-flexible, which means you can indicate if you want your application to be reviewed without submitting test scores

  • Cross Campus Transfers

    Application window: April 15 - May 15

    These instructions are for applicants who are already U-M Ann Arbor students, but wish to transfer to Stamps.

    1. Cross-Campus Transfer Students: download and fill out the Cross Campus Transfer Form (PDF).
    2. Prepare a portfolio of 10-12 pieces. Compile images or video files of your work in a Google Slides Presentation or PDF. Include a title, the medium, and a short description for each work.
    3. Submit the form from step 1, along with your portfolio from step 2, to [email protected]. Use the subject line "Stamps XCTR Application | Your Last Name".
    4. Receive decision by June 15
    5. Register for Stamps courses after June 15

    Cross-Campus Transfer requirements:

    • At least 24 credits earned at U-M by the end of the winter semester
    • At least a 2.5 GPA
    • If you believe you will come close to, but fall short of, the 24 credit minimum requirement, please talk to a Stamps admissions counselor at [email protected].
  • Multiple Dependent Degree Program (MDDP)

    Application window: April 15 - May 15

    These instructions are for applicants who are already U-M Ann Arbor students, but wish to pursue a dual degree with Stamps. If you are an LSA student who has NOT declared a major, please be sure to read the special section below.

    1. Applicants for Dual Degrees: download and fill out the Application for MDDP Form (PDF). Leave program/major advisor and Dean’s office signatures blank.
    2. Prepare a portfolio of 10-12 pieces. Compile images or video files of your work in a Google Slides Presentation or PDF. Include a title, the medium, and a short description for each work.
    3. Submit the form from step 1, along with your portfolio from step 2, to [email protected]. Use the subject line "Stamps MDDP Application | Your Last Name".
    4. Receive decision by June 15
    5. Register for Stamps courses after June 15

    MDDP (dual-degree) requirements:

    • At least 30 credits earned at U-M

    • At least a 3.0 GPA

    • If you believe you will come close to, but fall short of, the 30 credit minimum requirement, please talk to a Stamps admissions counselor at [email protected].

    Please Note: LSA requires its students to declare an LSA major before applying for a dual degree with another unit.

  • International Applicants

    Early Action deadline : November 1

  • International Exchange Students

    2. Financial Resources Statement

      Keep in Mind:
      • Choose the F-1 Visa option
      • Use “Living Expenses” only to estimate your total cost
    3. Portfolio

    4. Artist statement

    5. Statement of Purpose: Why do you want to study at Stamps?

    6. Official transcript (in English) from home institution. Certified English translations of transcripts will also be accepted.
    7. English language proficiency scores are required of all speakers of English as a second language.

    Please do not make travel arrangements until you have received your official University of Michigan admit letter and I-20 and have signed up to attend International Orientation.
