Strategic Plan

Action is at the heart of our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. We will not be judged on what we say, but by what we do. In 2015, a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Planning Committee was formed at the Stamps School to compile data, document needs, and create a strategic plan for DEI

Our annual plans outline measurable actions and accountability for:

  • Faculty, staff, and student recruitment efforts that support a diverse school community
  • Retention of students, faculty, lecturers, and staff through the promotion of an equitable and inclusive community
  • Continual research, climate assessments, and accountability for DEI plan implementation

The plan to achieve these goals includes:

  • Townhall meetings
  • Mentorship opportunities
  • Faculty grants for new and revised courses targeting DEI content and pedagogy
  • Workshops to build inclusive teaching and cross-cultural competencies
  • Travel grants for high need prospective student campus visits
  • Student organization support around diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
  • Student financial emergency funding
  • Exhibition programming
  • Improved accessibility

Support from the University of Michigan includes:

  • Funding for freshening cross-cultural training curriculum
  • New course development to support DEI goals
  • Funding for town-hall gatherings and events around DEI goals
  • Professional development and training funds for faculty and staff, including inclusive teaching workshops

    Report a Concern

    • Report a Campus Climate Concern: A campus climate concern can include actions that discriminate, stereotype, exclude, harass, or harm anyone in our community based on their identity (such as race, color, ethnicity, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, age, or religion). Concerns may stem from fear, misunderstanding, hatred, or stereotypes. Behaviors may be intentional or unintentional.
    • Report regulatory or compliance issues: In the University setting, compliance is not primarily about policing people’s behavior; it is about understanding which laws apply to U‑M’s activities and ensuring adherence to them. The number and scope of laws that apply to the University’s activities is extensive – which makes understanding them (and complying with them) a challenging endeavor. Read more about compliance requirements at U‑M.
    • Report Discrimination, Discriminatory Harassment, and Sexual Misconduct: Sexual misconduct can take a variety of forms, including sexual and gender-based harassment, sexual assault, intimate partner violence, stalking, and retaliation against those who raise concerns about sexual misconduct. Behavior that creates a hostile environment or is perceived to impact a person’s employment, academic standing, or participation in university programs could be considered sexual misconduct.
