Hillary Butterworth: Web
This installation is the culmination of a semester of research and experiments. I was instinctively drawn to an experimental form of net-weaving, which allowed me to create a delicate, lacy plane between any three points. I continued to explore the possibilities of the form by creating them in public all over campus, by attaching the anchor points to trash cans, doorways, park benches and bookshelves, and anywhere else I could loop a string around. They grew larger and more elaborate until I was spending over ten hours continuously on a single weaving. The largest stretched between two bookshelves in the Shapiro library. I really enjoy bringing my art out of A&D and into the public, where people from other disciplines can bring new perspectives and criticisms to my art.
Please revisit the space to watch me work and share your own thoughts over the coming weeks. Web will be in process until the 24th.
