555 Gallery: 10th Anniversary and Grand Opening
In 2002, A&D alums founded an alternative art space called 555. 555 officially became 555 Nonprofit Gallery and Studios, a 501c3 arts organization, in 2006. In the past 10 years, 555 has moved 6 times — from Ann Arbor to Ypsilanti to Detroit, from building to building. The group has continued to make art, provide artists with studio and exhibit space, public arts projects, an artist in residency program, and arts education programming. 555 is now transforming and opening their newest space in Detroit’s former Third Police Precinct: the Jail Cells and offices are now artists studios, and the former holding cells and lobby are now public gallery space.
