Anne Mondro Featured in My Modern Met

Stamps Professor Anne Mondro’s sculptural work was recently featured in My Modern Met. Utilizing crochet hook and tinned copper wire, Mondro creates realistic 3D models of the human heart. The work was inspired by Mondro’s course, ​“Retaining Identity,” which pairs students with persons with dementia via the U‑M Geriatric Center to explore ways that creativity can empower individuals and help them retain their connection to the community during times of illness. 

On the work, Mondro said: ​“When you care for a loved one, the two of you become intertwined. You take on their vulnerabilities but also their strengths. As I thought about that relationship, it was important that these forms be tied together somehow.”
