Artists Selected as Finalists for Envision Award
Three prolific artists are the finalists for the 2023 Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative award.
The Penny W. Stamps Gallery received 309 applications for the program. The prominent national panel of jurors who made the final selections for the initiative included: Neil A. Barclay, President & CEO of Charles Wright Museum of African American Art, Shannon Rae Stratton, Executive Director of Ox-Bow School of Art and Artists’ Residency, and Nayda Collazo-Llorens, artist and recipient of the inaugural Envision Artist Initiative award.
The finalist artists are:
From June 1 through July 29, 2023, Durden, Ghaderi, and Kafafian will present their work in an exhibition at Stamps Gallery. On June 1, from 6 – 8 pm, an opening reception will be held at the Stamps Gallery. The jury will reconvene before the opening reception to select the Envision 2022 – 2023 recipient, which will be announced at the event. The winning artist will receive a $5,000 prize.
Envision: The Michigan Artist Initiative is an exhibition and awards program designed to support the development of contemporary artists living and working in Michigan. In its second iteration, the program recognizes the creativity, rigor, and innovation of Michigan-based artists and collaboratives — and honors their role in inspiring the next generations of artists in our state. This initiative showcases the excellence and artistic merit of contemporary art practices in Michigan.
