Audra Wolowiec: Workspace Residency Exhibition at Dieu Donné
New works in paper by Audra Wolowiec (BFA 2002) are featured in the Workspace Residency Exhibition at Dieu Donné, on view through January 19, 2018 in Brooklyn, NY.
Audra Wolowiec’s interest in working with sound led her to explore the wave-like patterns created during the papermaking process. Discovering a series of wave interference photographs used in physics demonstrations (most famously produced by Berenice Abbott at MIT, 1958 – 1961), Wolowiec created a series of ‘waveforms’ to reflect this phenomena, as well as a companion series of three dimensional cast paper works.
With a focus on experimentation and collaboration, Dieu Donné founded the Workspace Program to provide emerging New York State based artists with the opportunity to explore hand papermaking and to utilize its processes to produce a body of work. In this unique program, artists work collaboratively with master papermakers, which is essential to providing artists an opportunity to create work in a medium that is outside of their traditional practice.
