Ng’s work is one of 379 pieces selected from over 2000 entries from 49 countries. Besides being exhibited in New York City, the winners will also be included in 8 exhibitions that will tour cities in the United States, Canada, China, England, France, Germany, Japan, Poland, Russia, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Ng’s submission, Everything is Temporary, was created while studying abroad at Central Saint Martins in early 2015. The piece is a response to the creative brief “What is your statement as a designer?”
I designed an interactive, typographic installation out of post-it notes, which emphasized the communication. The ‘interaction’ aspect touches on the idea of responsibility and relevance to society. People were allowed to interact with the piece by contributing or taking away. I wanted people to question the ephemeral nature of life. If everything is so temporary — including graphic design — what is the point?
