Bianca Ng: Take Up Space 2018 - Defying Dualities
On April 7, 2018, Bianca Ng (BFA ‘16) presents Take Up Space 2018: Defying Dualities — an art event featuring 31 black and white illustrations of interviews with women exploring female contradictions.
Growing up, girls are expected to embody multiple expectations, which are often contradicting and follow them into adulthood. We should be sexy, but not a slut. We should be emotional, but not crazy. We should speak our minds, but make sure everyone in the room is comfortable. Defying Dualities aims to spread awareness that women don’t need to live within the confines of a black and white world.
Defying Dualities is this year’s theme for Take Up Space. Founded by Bianca Ng, Take Up Space is an annual visual storytelling project that celebrates everyday female voices. Every year Ng collects and artistically translates 31 stories to share during Women’s History Month in March. She investigates a nuanced topic specific to the female psyche. Last year’s theme was Who is Your Shero?
At this event, the original artwork will be on display and for sale. Audiences will gain first access to limited handmade goods for purchase. The ticket includes food and one drink. The participants and the audience will have a unique opportunity to connect and share their experiences through vulnerable storytelling. Come meet the badass ladies and take up space with us.
