Cameron Van Dyke Develops Off Grid Community for Students
Cameron Van Dyke (MFA ‘15) is now an Assistant Professor of Applied Design at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina. He has an interest in micro architecture, intentional community, and off grid living. Cameron and his wife Rachael have been building an off-grid community in the mountains outside of Boone for both themselves and students to live, called The Future People. The purpose of the project is to demonstrate and test new sustainable ways of living and give students the opportunity to experience a downshifted life closer to the natural environment.
The Future People project currently consists of three small dwellings with a fourth one being completed this summer. The project was recently featured on the YouTube channel Exploring Alternatives.
