Cosmo Whyte Joins UCLA Department of Art Faculty
UCLA Arts recently welcomed Cosmo Whyte (MFA 2015) to the faculty of the Department of Art at the rank of assistant professor.
Whyte has exhibited his work at Prospect.5 in New Orleans, Museum of Latin American Art in Long Beach, the 13th Havana Biennial, Somerset House in London, and The Norwegian Museum of Cultural History. His work is in the public collection of the National Gallery of Jamaica, High Museum, 21c Collection, Hallmark Art Collection, and Pérez Art Museum Miami.
He has been the recipient of the Harpo Foundation New Works Project Grant, the Art Matters Award, The Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award, the Working Artist Project Award, The Drawing Center’s Open Sessions Fellowship, Artadia Award, the International Sculpture Center’s “Outstanding Student Achievement in Contemporary Sculpture Award,” and the Edge Award.
Whyte attended Bennington College in Vermont for his BFA, Maryland Institute College of Art for his Post-Baccalaureate Certificate, and the University of Michigan for his MFA.
“I am really excited to join the UCLA family, to work with such an esteemed group of colleagues, and be of service to this community and student body,” said Whyte of his new role in the department.
