Decipher Conference Nominated for Design Incubation Awards
The Decipher 2018 Design Educators Research Conference, co-chaired by Stamps Assistant Professors Kelly M. Murdoch-Kitt Omar Sosa-Tzec and hosted at Stamps in September 2018 has been nominated for the Design Incubation Communication Design Educators Awards in the categories of Service and Scholarship: Published Research.
The conference convened 228 participants from 12 countries at the University of Michigan to explore design research at the intersections of different disciplinary perspectives, levels of expertise, and types of outcomes. The diversity of the conference was enhanced by 10 equity scholarships, which Murdoch-Kitt and Sosa-Tzec advocated for, and which were funded by Stamps.

Decipher sought to promote equity in design research by expanding definitions of design research and how it is practiced, and by creating opportunities for many different voices to be part of the conversation about how designers define, do, disseminate, teach, and find ways to support design research.
Regardless of the outcome of these nominations, we are grateful to everyone in the Stamps community for helping make Decipher a success and are honored that our endeavor to make design research more equitable is being recognized.
