End of an Era: Sam Viviano Reflects on 36 Years at MAD
Recently, i24NEWS — an Israeli 24-hour television news network — profiled MAD Magazine Art Director and Stamps Alum Sam Vivano (BFA ’76). Vivano will be wrapping up his 36-year career at MAD at the end of December 2017 as the magazine relocates from New York City to the home of its parent company, DC Comics, in Burbank, California.
In the i24NEWS interview, Vivano chats with correspondent Maya Margit about his career path, the intersection of satire and politics in American media, and the future of MAD Magazine.
In 2018, MAD Magazine will have an almost entirely new new staff and a new editor; Bill Moresson will join the team after 27 years on The Simpsons. “In some ways, it’s an end of an era,” Vivano says.
