Jessica Frelinghuysen Reviewed in Canadian Art Magazine
Stamps Lecturer Jessica Frelinghuysen’s work was recently reviewed in Canadian Art Magazine. Three of Frelinghuysen’s projects are now on display in Canada, as part of the Art Gallery of Windsor’s current exhibition Downtown/s: Urban Renewal Today for Tomorrow. The 2017 Art Gallery of Windsor Triennial of Contemporary Art, (October 21, 2017 – January 28, 2018).
Surrounding the theme of downtown, selected artists are responding to the current states of urban renewal in the areas of Windsor-Essex, Southwestern Ontario and Detroit. The strategic plurality of the word downtown speaks to current and timely conversations about global architecture, culture and economic renaissance, topics that are changing the nature of what a downtown looks like, how it functions, and for whom. In an effort to expand upon the notion of downtown, the AGW is partnering with additional off-site venues who will serve as spaces for the presentation of art and symposiums, such as the University of Windsor and its newly relocated School of Creative Arts, and the Windsor Symphony Orchestra.
Frelinghuysen’s contributions to the exhibition include a series of photographs and performances as well as a participatory installation of Jessercise ArtFit Exercise Stations along the Windsor waterfront.
