Kate Darnell: First Place Videopoem at Atticus Review
Kathryn Darnell’s (BFA ‘78) calligraphic animation of the poem “Things I Found in the Hedge” by Lucy English has won first place in the the Inaugural Atticus Review Videopoem Contest.
The animation, which combines moving calligraphic words with antique natural history illustrations and original drawings, is part “The Book of Hours” an online secular book of hours by Lucy English.
This work also represents a relatively new direction for Darnell, who has worked as a traditional calligrapher and illustrator for over thirty years before realizing she could make words move in more ways than one.
