Katie Spak Paints Public Mural in DC
During the month of September, Stamps alum Katie Spak (BFA ’19) partnered with Dupont Underground, a non-profit community arts organization, to paint a mural in the 15,000 square foot tunnel beneath Washington DC’s iconic Dupont Circle. Spak was one of several artists invited to activate the space before the end of the organization’s five year lease, in an attempt to convince the city of their invaluable contribution to the local arts community. As the first female muralist featured at Dupont Underground, Spak depicted a 40 foot by 12 foot “lady painter”, hard at work to take up space between stretches of graffiti art. A DC native, Spak is grateful for the opportunity to support a local cause while pushing the boundaries of her newfound illustration style.
