Katie Spak x Stamps School of Art & Design Merchandise Collection Released
The Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design has collaborated with Katie Spak (BFA ‘19) to release a special edition merchandise collection.
Spak is an illustrator, muralist, and graphic designer based in Brooklyn, New York. Spak has created a variety of designs that merge her friendly, whimsical art style with the Stamps brand. The collection includes sweatshirts, t‑shirts, joggers, caps, and more.
The merchandise can be found at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design Merchandise Store, powered by Ann Arbor Tees.
Proceeds from all sales at the Stamps Merchandise Store goes towards a positive cause. 100% of the net profits from every purchase are added to the Create the Future Fund which benefits Stamps students.
Spak calls the collaboration a “dream project,” where she could design beyond a strict visual identity.
“Stamps has always taken pride in the fact that we have artists and designers who all have their own flavor and their own style,” Spak said. “You get to take more risks, have more fun, and use a lot more pink.”
Spak has made the most of opportunities offered by Stamps for students and alumni. In addition to the merchandise collection, Spak has also lent her talents to a Stamps Admissions campaign, titled “Get in the Game of Art & Design” and created other posters in her time as a graphic design intern at the Stamps Communications department.
Many of Spak’s designs portray a handmade aesthetic, achieved with programs like Adobe Illustrator and Procreate.
“I’ve always been interested in creating digital designs that feel hand drawn,” Spak said. “We can make digital pieces that still feel human, textured, warm, and interesting. These designs don’t really take themselves too seriously.”
Spak says that her whimsical design treatment approach is logical for a school like Stamps, which fosters creativity and innovation on a daily basis.
“It’s a lot of responsibility to help further a brand through design. At Stamps, it makes sense to show that we can be creative and push boundaries,” Spak said. “It’s really great to be able to contribute to Stamps post-graduation and participate in these creative projects.”
Spak’s collaboration with Stamps is the first merchandise collection released by Stamps. Stay tuned for more collections coming in 2023!
