Katie St. Clair: New Exhibition Features Beauty, Decay and Lots of Mushrooms
Fruiting Bodies, a new exhibition of Katie St. Clair’s (MFA ‘14) work, is on view at Central Piedmont Community College in Charlotte, North Carolina through October 10, 2018. The new exhibition was recently featured in an article by Pat Moran at Creative Loafing.
The exhibition is informed by mushroom foraging and other immersive experiences in forests of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The paintings are an attempt to visualize that which cannot be seen, or described in words.
“Fruiting Bodies” will also feature a series of melting ice sculptures that contain natural pigments, local natural and man-made debris and mushrooms that will create paintings, as they melt in the gallery on to prepared canvases. Over the duration of the exhibition, there will be three installation dates — August 20, September 12, and October 1 — when viewers will be able to see the ice spheres in all stages of melt.
