Ken Aptekar Exhibits at Wasserman Projects
Stamps alumnus Ken Aptekar (BFA 1973) will be presenting as part of an upcoming group show at Wasserman Projects in Detroit. The group show, titled Portray, brings together 14 artists working in a variety of media who combine the classical and the contemporary in their work through playful juxtaposition and innovative approaches to portraiture.
Aptekar often combines painting with text, creating new versions of of historical paintings and frames by bolting glass with sandblasted words to his painted panels. He strives to question the nature of spectatorship by included the kind of commentary that we may think but not say out loud when viewing a painting, helping to legitimize viewers’ responses to his paintings.
