Leisa Rich: Ogden Museum of Southern Art Presents Solo Exhibition
The Ogden Museum of Southern Art in New Orleans presents a solo exhibition of work by Leisa Rich (BFA 1982). On display from April 6 — July 3, the exhibition features a large wall installation made of a unique material. “Varikyno: The Ice Palace” is based on scenes from Dr. Zhivago, and also references Rich’s Canadian upbringing spent hiding in Lake Huron ice caves that were right outside her childhood home, ice skating on glittery ponds, and being surrounded by the beauty inherent to a fresh snowfall. Rich crocheted the low-melt polyester into sculptural forms, and heat pressed strips into “sticks and stones”. The exhibition will also feature 3D printed sculptures that meld various fiber art processes, including taut thread, knitted and embroidered beads, free motion machine embroidery and more.
