Lily Cox-Richard at Vox Populi
Lily Cox-Richard, A&D assistant professor and Michigan Society Fellow, presents new work in The Stand (Possessing Powers) at Vox Populi in Philadelphia, February 1 – 24, 2013. This series of sculpture is based on works by the neoclassical sculptor Hiram Powers, the so-called Father of American Sculpture. Her carved plaster sculptures focus on the elements that structurally support the figure in his works. They are originals and copies, homage and critique, familiar and strange, created in an attempt to see what new content might be revealed when figure and ground begin to conflate.
Vox Populi’s February exhibitions critically explore linguistic metaphors and meetings of opposites – original and copy, figure and ground, black and white, reason and intuition, natural and man-made. Sculpture, performance, sound, film, and installation by Lily Cox-Richard, Jeffrey Kurosaki and Tara Pelletier, HÆ°Æ¡ng Ngô and Or Zubalsky, and Lucia Oceguera.
