Maryanne Ellison Simmons Collaborates with Damon Davis on “All Hands On Deck”
Master printmaker and founder of Wildwood Press Maryanne Ellison Simmons (BFA 1971) has partnered with artist Damon Davis to spread the message of hope and to fight racial inequality. Following the shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, Davis began a project called “All Hands On Deck.” Davis took photos of the hands of individuals who have contributed to the movement to protect human rights, and he turned the photos into posters. His images represent the diverse group of individuals that stand together to fight racial inequality. These photos are posted all over St. Louis, and they are available for free on his website to be downloaded, printed, and posted to spread the message. Davis explains that this project is a “call to action to stand with those who stand for us all.”
Simmons and Davis have created seven large black and white prints to display at the John Burroughs School in the Haertter Performing Arts Center, which is located on 755 South Price Road, St. Louis, MO 63124. The exhibition will run through November 20th.
