Megan LaCroix to Show in New York Fashion Week
Megan LaCroix (BFA ‘14) will showcase her hand-crafted designer jewelry and screen printed fabrics with clothing designer Jessica Hadley’s latest collection of garments in Small Boutique Fashion Week, held in conjunction with New York Fashion Week in February, 2018.
LaCroix described her work, “This collection is made with donated fabrics. I hand screen printed designs that I initially drew in my sketch books and journals on these pieces of fabric. I work with local screen printing collective Ocelot Print shop to burn the screens. I stand with Fashion Revolution so I focus on my environmental impact and work with local designers, specifically Jessica with 808GyptsyLove. I also work collaboratively because teamwork is the best way to build a stronger foundation. It is important that we support local artists and designers. This is a rare opportunity for us.”
The show will take place February 11, 2018 at 450 Studio in Manhattan, New York. Small Boutique Fashion Week focuses on independent designers. It was founded in 2012, showing 400+ brands since their beginning.
“We want to put Detroit, Chicago, and Midwest on the map as fashion capitals. Our style is distinct but beyond that Jessica’s latest collection of clothing featuring my screen printed fabrics and jewelry really, all made with my own two hands, gives our work an edge. We are making everything ourselves. Our goal is to stand out on the runway. We put our hearts and souls on the line for this journey. We also challenge beauty and fashion standards with our models and philosophies behind the work. We believe identity is not the center of the fashion industry. Fashion is self expression and should not be limited to one accepted look.”
The goal for this show and collection is to raise awareness of the shallow gaze people have on one another. Megan stands with body positivity, non-binary modes of thinking and Fashion Revolution. You will not be disappointed with their work.
“It is important to pay attention to details. Life is so much more complex than we want to accept into our consciousness. We are killing ourselves to look a certain way. The look we are trying to achieve is purchased from large companies that mostly exploit not only the earth but humanity. There is nothing more pervasive in the classes I took at Stamps, than protecting our earth and it’s resources. Our collection is made to help people slow down, pay attention to detail and really think about what you are buying. We have to become conscious in our spending habits. We have to support local artists and designers.”
