Melanie Manos and Tom Bray: Sky Eye
Sky Eye, a new large-scale outdoor projection, cast its gaze from the U‑M Detroit Observatory, central campus, on the evening of October 28, 2023. Using a 10,000 lumens, 100 lb projector, Teaching Professor and Collegiate Lecturer Melanie Manos and Converging Technologies Consultant and Stamps Adjunct Assistant Professor Tom Bray projected video from the roof of the Alice Lloyd Hall onto the Observatory dome. Manos created Sky Eye for her ongoing project, HerView. Manos recruited current U‑M female/femme Astrophysics students, along with several Stamps students from her F24 Studio 4D class, whose eyes were recorded for the projection. The projection was a featured work for the University of Michigan Museum of Art’s Memory & Monuments Symposium, with generous support from the Arts Initiative.
