Mikayla Buford: Publishes article in latest ACM XRDS magazine issue
Mikayla Buford was recently published in the XRDS magazine on the topic of resiliency in the face of the pandemic and social unrest demonstrated through the work of mask makers during the summer of 2020. This article is connected to her 2021 Designing Interactive Systems conference paper, Beyond Crisis Couture: A Study on Motivations and Practices of Mask Makers During A Crisis, that she wrote with colleagues at Microsoft Research. In the summer of 2020, they surveyed and interviewed mask makers from around the world who were making and distributing masks in their local communities. The aim of the study was to understand the motivations and practices of mask makers and how digital technologies affect designing during a crisis.
