Nancy Thayer Exhibits at M Contemporary Art, Ferndale
Work by Nancy Thayer is on view in Rapport: Unity in Diversity, open March 16 — 31 at M Contemporary Art in Ferndale, MI.
I was born in Detroit and lived on the east side as the riots were taking root – on the corner of Gratiot and Van Dyke. The building is no longer there nor is the Sears store that was across the street or the grocery store that was next door.
Our building was not damaged in 1968 because someone had written “Soul brother” “Soul sister” on our front door. There was a rapport, a relationship characterized by some unspoken agreement communicated with these words.
Our world needs more unity in diversity. The paintings in this series express the beauty and harmony of diverse identities living side by side.
An exhibition of 10 of my newest paintings focusing on Rapport: Unity in Diversity will open Friday, March 16, 2018 at the M Contemporary Art Gallery in Ferndale, Michigan.
The work of Nancy Thayer is included in numerous museum collections including the Detroit Institute of Arts, Muzeum Papiernictwa, Duszniki Zdroj, Poland, Foundation MINT ALAPITVANY, Budapest, Hungary, and in over 200 private and corporate collections throughout Europe and the U.S. She was commissioned to create nine major sculptural paintings for the city of Detroit, and 3 for major health care facilities in Michigan. Her work has been shown extensively throughout the U.S and in Italy, Germany, Hungary, Poland, The Netherlands and Korea.
