Phil Stead on Stamps experience, award-winning children’s books

Step inside Phil Stead (BFA ​‘03) and Erin Stead​’s studio in a 100-year-old converted barn in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Here, the team writes and illustrates award-winning children’s books. Phil Stead is the author of the Caldecott Medal-winning book ​“A Sick Day for Amos McGee,” illustrated by Erin Stead.

On October 24, 2023, Phil Stead is set to publish his next book, ​“The North Wind and the Sun,” which contains collage artwork and Phil’s characteristically nuanced storytelling.

In this video, alum Phil Stead recounts his career journey and Stamps experience, where he explored different disciplines, participated in writing courses, and ran Track and Field on a partial athletic scholarship.
