Rebekah Modrak Awarded DEI Grant to Bring Chef Tunde Wey to Campus
Stamps Associate Professor Rebekah Modrak was awarded a Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Grant from the Office of DEI to support her efforts to bring Nigerian chef and writer Tunde Wey to campus this Spring.
Wey is the creator of a traveling dinner series called Blackness in America, which brings people together over a meal to talk about racism and systemic injustices. The dinners are meant to create a space for Black discourse. Wey describes this as “prioritizing the perspectives of Black people.”
Modrak and Wey are exploring several options for projects for this Spring that use food as provocation to bring attention to inequitable distribution of wealth and resources, and to create opportunities for inclusivity and awareness of consumption.
Wey’s visit is also supported by a Stamps Witt visiting artist grant and is under consideration for support by the National Center for Institutional Diversity (NCID).
