Rebekah Modrak in New Art Examiner
Stamps Professor Rebekah Modrak’s article “Entrepreneurship 407: White Supremacy, Benevolent Institutions, and Shinola” was published in this month’s edition of the New Art Examiner.
The article proposes that, even as Civil War-era Confederate monuments are de-installed around the country, the values of white supremacy find new forums in unexpected places, namely in academic institutions, through the lapses of entrepreneurial engagement.
The New Art Examiner, an independent magazine of art and cultural criticism, was founded in Chicago and is published there. The magazine makes important contributions to the larger history of art and cultural criticism in the United States by “delivering an often sharp-edged critique of the definition and transmission of culture in our society.”
Stamps Lecturer Melanie Manos, the Detroit Editor of the New Art Examiner, brought the article, originally published by the National Center for Institutional Diversity, to the New Art Examiner for re-publication.
