Robert Platt Participates in The Arctic Circle Expedition 2012

A&D Assistant Professor Robert Platt has been selected to join a group of artists, scientists and educators on an expeditionary residency program this coming fall in the Arctic circle. The Arctic Circle sails a traditionally rigged Tall Ship around the mountainous Arctic archipelago of Svarlbard, 10 degrees from the North Pole. This is a unique and highly prestigious opportunity to make artwork in one of the planets most remote environments. During the expedition Robert intends to construct a six foot dome camera obscura and an igloo as part of an “observatory spectacle” , as well as employing numerous optical devices to assist drawing and painting projects that he will develop post expedition.
