Shane Darwent: Suburban Psalm
Suburban Psalm, a new exhibition by Shane Darwent (MFA 2017), is on view through March 12 at SPRING/BREAK Art Show: NYC’s curator-driven art fair during Armory Arts Week. Learn more about the exhibition here.
About the Show
Seductive yet repulsive, alien yet familiar, the suburban landscape presents today’s wilderness — confusing, bewildering, and sometimes downright inhospitable. Shane Darwent’s sculptural installations employ everyday materials to ask, “What are we to make of these modern frontier lands full of homes made for strangers?”About Shane
Shane received a BFA from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) (2005) and a MFA from the Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan (2017). His work has been informed by his time at Penland School of Crafts as a Core Fellow, and by residences at Ucross, Jentel, Brush Creek, and Ragdale. In 2017, Shane’s work was awarded an Outstanding Student Achievement Award from the International Sculpture Center. His recent exhibitions include the 2017 Windsor Triennial of Contemporary Art and “Have+Hold” at Wasserman Projects in Detroit. Currently he is a Visual Arts Fellow in the Tulsa Artist Fellowship program. You can view more of his work on his website.
