Stephanie Rowden and Hannah Smotrich Launch SparkVotes Parties
As part of their ongoing research effort, Creative Campus Voting Project, Stamps Associate Professors Stephanie Rowden and Hannah Smotrich are proud to launch SparkVotes Parties, a collection of non-partisan, voting-themed games for 6 – 8 players.
When students sign up to host a SparkVotes party on Saturday, October 17, they are given materials that make hosting these hour-long virtual parties on Zoom easy. The games are formatted for a virtual experience and include a signature match challenge, a ballot scavenger hunt, and a not-so-trivial pursuit face-off.
Everyone who hosts a U‑M Ann Arbor party on October 17 will have a chance to win AirPods and gift baskets from Roos Roast, Cherry Republic, and Bivouac.
Everyone who participates in a U‑M Ann Arbor party on October 17 will have a chance to win a $75 gift cards to Sava’s, a $50 gift cards to Zingerman’s, and $30 gift cards to Cottage Inn Pizza.
The SparkVotes Parties are designed for the U‑M Ann Arbor Campus, but Rowden and Smotrich are eager to share SparkVotes Party materials with other schools by request.
“If you’re in Michigan, it should be easy to adapt the games for parties on your campus. If you are from an out-of-state campus, we can send you our Michigan-specific materials as inspiration for a SparkVotes-style events tailored to your state’s voting regulations,” Smotrich and Rowden state.
