Support Brightmoor Maker Space on Giving Tuesday: 11/30/2021
A collaboration between Detroit Community Schools and the Stamps School, the Brightmoor Maker Space transformed a formerly vacant 3,200 square-foot building into a place for youth and adults to build their creative making skills and incubate business ideas.
This year, on Giving Tuesday — that’s November 30, 2021 — we are raising funds to create an Outdoor Classroom Pavilion in the Brightmoor neighborhood.
The pavilion project will provide free wi-fi and charging stations, fueled by solar panels. The pavilions will host community programs, classrooms, and services, providing reliable points of contact for access to education, employment, fitness, and creativity.
“Pandemic realities have increased our need for safe, social connection — and our need for access,” says Stamps professor Nick Tobier, co-founder of the Brightmoor Maker Space.
“We’re aiming to connect hands, hearts, minds, and bodies through this project. And we hope you’ll join us in the effort.”
Stamps students and alums, including students in Tobier’s Change by Design class, will work side by side with Brightmoor youth building the structures. There are also many volunteer opportunities available for the community. If you’re interested in volunteering, please contact stampsalumni@umich.edu.
