UMMA After Hours: Friday, March 11
The University of Michigan Museum of Art presents UMMA After Hours on Friday, March 11 from 7 – 10 pm.
New special exhibitions include the first major U.S. exhibition of the accomplished Chinese painter Xu Weixin; photographs showcasing the construction work of Detroit architect Albert Kahn, arguably the most important architect of American industrialization; Early British Photographs from the UMMA Collection that chart the journey of the new medium during the 19th century; a video work by Turkish artist Ferhat Özgür that explores tensions of tradition and modernity; and a sound installation by renowned American composer Alvin Lucier. Enjoy live eastern European music performed by Ann Arbor’s own Rhyta Musik, who augment traditional folk melodies with the sensibilities of rock, funk, jazz, and classical music. Curators’ conversations and light refreshments round out the event.
