William T. Carter: 9/12/1924 - 9/13/2015
Stamps Professor Emeritus William T. Carter passed away on September 13, 2015.
Professor Carter — known affectionately as Bill — was an active member of the Stamps faculty from 1964 to 1988. A distinguished designer and architect, he educated generations of designers and artists through foundational study in visualization and three-dimensional design, and led the School’s interior design program. His work and teaching were deeply informed by his focus on design research, and over the years he traveled extensively in Europe to continue his research investigations. In 1987, he was named Catherine B. Heller Collegiate Professor of Art in recognition of outstanding contributions in teaching, creative practice, and service, a title he continued to hold as an emeritus professor.
A memorial service to celebrate his life and legacy will be held Sunday September 20 at 2:30 pm, at Nie Family Funeral Home, 2400 Carpenter Road, Ann Arbor. The family will be receiving visitors before the service, from 1:30 to 2:30 pm.
