Mark Chung Kwan Fan comes with a decade of experience in higher education focused on student affairs and supporting diverse collegiates. With an amalgamation of a student-centered approach and research-informed praxis, he grounds his work in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) while assisting students successfully navigate their college experiences. Mark professionally contributed to areas of housing and residence life, honors college, international student orientation and support, and gender and sexuality work. Most recently, Mark served as Assistant Director for Engagement at the U-M Spectrum Center, in which his responsibilities included developing and administering his unit’s goals and strategic plan, including DEIB planning; developing signature events and building on-campus and community partnerships; organizing donor stewardship processes in collaboration with development and alumni relations colleagues and creating a comprehensive student organization funding process utilizing alumni donations and endowments, and developing programming to engage students and scholarly communities. While serving as Assistant Director, he was also a Visiting Case Manager for the Dean of Students Office in which he supported students experiencing distress, mental health challenges, and needing academic support.


Born and raised in Mauritius, Mark is a Taurus sun, world traveler, and Asian food lover. He has held additional leadership positions within ACPA: College Student Educators International, the Consortium of Higher Education LGBT Resource Professionals, and the Community Advisory Board for the U-M Rogel Cancer Center. Mark engages with the local community as a member of the Board of Directors of the Ann Arbor Street Art Fair, The Original. He relies on creative practices within photography, fashion, and graphic design.
