Geodesic Intervention activates outdoor seating to promote human interactions outside year-round, while also collecting data to inform urban planning and create more human-centered public spaces. This prototype exhibits a sensor system that tracks the number of users who come to enjoy the space. In future iterations, more complex sensor systems will be developed to understand what sparks ludic behavior in the space. The benefits of better public spaces are not just felt individually; more human-centered public spaces are known to improve public safety, public health, and retail sales through the reduction of congestion and the ability to sit, stay, and enjoy one’s surroundings.
