While many have a prepared elevator pitch ready to explain their qualifications for a job, I often use my thirty seconds to depict my ethnic background. Throughout my entire life, I have prepared this thirty second clarification before being flooded with a wave of questions. Many cannot grasp the concept of mixed children that do not follow the black and white binary we associate with interracial children in America. My own culture is defined by my mother’s Amerasian identity and the combination of my father’s German and Cuban heritage. I am 25% Korean, Cuban, German, and Scandinavian. Because of this, 25% has been a percentile defining my personal identity my entire life. I encourage you to take a look through my stories and interpret my experiences without the restraint of that thirty second limit.
