Sonder is an ongoing photo series that follows the days in the lives of six students at the University of Michigan. The project was inspired by the idea of “sonder” which is the realization that each random passerby is living a life as vivid and complex as your own - populated with their own ambitions, friends, routines, worries and inherited craziness, an epic story that continues invisibly. This series started as an open ended-experiment, as I wanted to truly embrace “sonder” and immerse myself into someone else’s day to experience the vibrancy and complexity of another life, but transformed into an eye-opening experience where I made continual discoveries about the subjects, myself, and the world around me.
By creating carefully composed and aesthetic photographs, the mundane feeling of the everyday is elevated into something unique and beautiful. Sonder is a celebration of each person I photograph and a reminder to others that each day is truly amazing because you lived it.
