Grace Martinez’s work focuses on ethnic identity and the Latina experience in the Unites States. She uses ceramics as a means of visualizing the psychological impact of oppression that is rooted in nationality, race, gender and class based discrimination. Martinez’s work emphasizes the unique Latina experience in the U.S. while also exploring what it means to embrace difference in a culture that uses identity categories to oppress and separate.
