Guitars of The Anthropocene: Evolving A Cultural Object
Jack Hyland
Earth’s first musicians created their art with nothing more than the bones of their prey and the instinct to express themselves. Today, I aim to reconnect us to that creative heritage by utilizing society’s waste stream as a valuable product input. Through this act of upcycling, our society creates culture that is responsive to the environment and reflective of human modernity. My work evolves the electric guitar to a recycled plastic form, recalibrating this cultural object as a modern tool crafted from the contemporary environment.
