Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 270: Visualizing and Depicting Ideas.

Description: Students take five distinct approaches to depicting (making visible) the natural world and have five assignments to investigate and portray views of a biological subject (mammal, fish, amphibian, reptile, insect, or bird from a museum). They observe, measure, document, and depict their subject. The course blends image making skills (drawing and digital) and concept development. The class visits labs and museums around the university to see and use various imaging technologies. Students then produce drawings, images, objects, and representations depicting and explaining their subjects. Finally, they deliberate the intended and unintended consequences of these portrayals.
