Description: This course is organized around a rigorously structured schedule of painting (in class and out), group critiques, and discussion of exemplary works. Creative production is integrated with research into the world of contemporary art. Students explore how their own painting practices relate to contemporary painting practices, and how to conduct research about art that is not yet part of the canon. They research and discuss major 20th and 21st century art movements and artists who work in various genres.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in both the fall and winter terms of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
