Description: This studio course explores the subject of contemporary practice in poster design through idea-based problem solving. The emphasis of this course is on the development of visual acuity with word and image, and welcomes students with the desire to reshape and push forward their understanding of how to communicate effectively and dynamically. Ideas, visual literacy, visual intelligence, critical thinking, process, and thoughtfulness are critical considerations for this course. The role of a visual communications designer demands a wide range of thinking-through-making processes complemented by rigorous self criticism, an informed awareness of context and audience, the ability to work collaboratively as well as independently, and above all a commitment to improve the visual and physical environment that he/she chooses to engage.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in the winter term of every academic year, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
