Semester: Winter 2024

Prerequisites: All OF THE FOLLOWING: ARTDES 275: Color. OR PERMISSION OF INSTRUCTOR.

Description: Color in the Expanded Field examines various methods, techniques, and conceptual frameworks through which color functions in a variety of contexts surrounding artistic studio practice. Spanning from industrial processes to contemporary art objects, the course examines how color is not simply applied paint on a surface, but rather how it encompasses an expanded field beyond the two-dimensional plane. Through a combination of theoretical readings, research, and investigation of industrial sites, artists’ studios, and a museum archive, this hybrid-practice course culminates in two studio projects. This course is for students that are interested in interdisciplinary research and hybrid studio practices within art & design.

Frequency: This course is offered occasionally in the winter term.
