Art and Design History - Discussion

Prerequisites: No Prerequisites.

Description: This course explores modern and contemporary art and design from 1850 to the present. Themeatically structured, this lecture course with tutorials examines issues associated with innovations in technology, shifting political and social attitudes, identity and difference, and nationalism and globalization. Students study points of intersections, collaborations, and parallels between artists and designers, as well as instances in which artists and designers addressed similar thematic concerns from separate vantage points. The course emphasizes how art and design are products of and shaped by broader cultural, social, economic, and political contexts and concerns. Note: The lecture component of ARTDES 151 is online and asynchronous, meaning students view the lectures at their convenience. Students must attend their elected discussion section in person.
