Description: This course focuses on projects structured to meet the requirements of professional design practice. Coursework will refine skills in critical thinking, problem definition, communication, design research, design methods, prototyping, and presentation of these as a systematic design process. The goal of this course is to develop, test, and present a project that demonstrates a knowledge of user behavior, abductive reasoning, and the ability to ask what if” questions. Students will have the opportunity to synthesize prior learning and interests into a cohesive project. The course covers knowledge for a variety of practices — any that need to make accurate, complex, physical objects: e.g. model maker, product designer, prop maker, sculptor, prosthetic builder, roboticist, etc.

Frequency: This course is typically offered in the winter term of odd-numbered years, though scheduling may vary according to future term circumstances.
