Stamps recognizes that creative practice is global in its scope and impact. With funding support from the school, each student conducts a self-directed international project. Past graduates’ international research has included studying the residual effects of colonialism in South Africa; recording sound in Egypt’s museums, tombs, and temples; developing film in Iceland’s volcanic baths; and participation in a two-month residency at the MeetFactory International Center of Contemporary Art in Prague.
Appropriate funds are awarded to cover transportation and housing costs and a per diem is given to cover meals and incidental travel expenses for all students. The School’s Office of International Engagement supports students during their investigation of potential research sites, identification of contacts and institutions, formulation of proposals, and with travel and housing logistics. Directed Studio Advisors will also provide support in creating an International Experience proposal.
