1. Awards and Competitions
If your aspirations in the new year consist of winning artistic awards and earning cash prizes for a big idea, then you’ve come to the right place.
The Big Idea Award, which is accepting applications until February 12, 2023, provides one Stamps senior or eligible team $25,000 to help launch a major, ambitious project after graduation. Students, check out the application and other details surrounding this special award on our website.
For the student writers at Stamps, there’s the legendary Hopwood Awards program. The deadline to submit a piece is January 12, 2023, giving writers a chance to have their work recognized across the university.

4. Katie Spak x Stamps Merchandise
The traditional gift-giving season might be coming to a close, but you can still treat yourself or someone you know to special edition Stamps merchandise by Katie Spak (BFA ‘19). These sweatshirts, t‑shirts, pullovers and more merge Spak’s friendly, whimsical art style with Stamps school pride.
The merchandise can be found at the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design Merchandise Store, powered by Ann Arbor Tees. 100% of the net profits are added to the Create the Future Fund, which benefits Stamps students.
5. Speaker Series
On Thursday nights, the general public can enjoy live, in-person presentations as part of the Penny Stamps Distinguished Speaker Series. These events bring respected leaders and innovators from a broad spectrum of creative fields right to you. The series will take place at 5:30 pm at the Michigan Theater in downtown Ann Arbor. There’s something for everyone this year, so check out the full list of speaker series events for more information.
6. Wellness Wednesdays
Here’s to health and wellness in the new year! Stamps is offering in-person workshops each month this semester with resources for students, staff, and faculty. On each first Wednesday of the month, stop by the neon Stamps sign on the second floor. On January 11, Stamps is featuring Emotional/Mental Wellness with Counseling & Psychological Services (CAPS).
